This is a nice place to get on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath (C&O Canal). There is some parking here but it gets challenging to find a spot during peak times. There is a nice picnic area...

View of the Potomac? Check. Free clean campsites? Check. Porter potties on site? Check. Clean potties? Not really. You're better off using the bathroom in nature. C & O Canal Tow Path...

There's campsite here between the lock and the Potomac River. https://www.nps.gov/choh/planyourvisit/camping.htm The campsite is free, and does not require reservations. It's first-come first...

Backround: Swains Lock was owned by the Swain family up untill about 3 years ago when the gov't took it over. From what i know it was because they were taking revenue away from Great Falls. HUGE...

Great place that's not crowded, can hike around, run or bike on the path, take family pictures, decent fishing and camp ground.
