United Planning Organization is a nonprofit corporation that has been providing human services since 1962. It conducts early child education, youth development and computer training classes. The corporation provides food handling and management training programs. It specializes in the areas of health and nutrition, economic and environmental development, employment, housing and consumer affairs. United Planning Organization also offers childhood development, employment training and substance abuse treatment services. Its programs are funded through various local, federal and private funding sources. The corporation additionally provides medical, life-support transportation, pickup and delivery services to senior citizens and people with disabilities. It is a member of various organizations, including the National Community Action Foundation, District of Columbia Chamber of Commerce, United Way of the National Capital Area, Washington Council of Agencies and National Head Start Association.
