Dr. Sujatha Kannan is professor of anesthesiology and critical care medicine and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is also the Richard J. Traystman Endowed Chair and the Vice Chair for Research for ACCM. She specializes in pediatric critical care with expertise in pediatric neurocritical care. In addition to her role at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Kannan is also a research scientist at the Hugo Moser Researcher Institute at Kennedy Krieger Institute.Dr. Kannan completed her medical training at the Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research in Pondicherry, India. She conducted residencies in pediatrics at the University Illinois at Chicago and the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Additionally, she completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Dr. Kannan joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 2011.Her research focuses on understanding the role of inflammation and immune dysregulation in the brain with a goal to develop therapies for childhood brain injury and neurodevelopmental disorders such as cerebral palsy, Rett syndrome, autism, TBI and CNS infections. In collaboration with the Kannan Rangaramanujam lab at the Center for Nanomedicine, Wilmer Eye Institute, the S. Kannan lab has created and developed novel nanotherapies to specifically target immune cells in the brain to promote repair and regeneration. Dr. Kannan is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the Society for Pediatric Research. She is a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. She has published extensively and has won several awards for her research.

Karen M. Horton, M.D., is a Professor of Radiology and the Chair of Radiology for the Russell H. Morgan Department of Radiology and Radiological Science. Dr. Horton’s clinical and research focus is on abdominal CT imaging, 3D imaging of the gastrointestinal tract and the mesenteric vessels, and virtual colonoscopy. She has published over 170 scientific papers, numerous book chapters and was the Johns Hopkins principle investigator in the National CT Colonography Trial. She attended the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, graduating in the top 10 percent of her class and was inducted into the AOA honor society. After completing a radiology residency and a fellowship in cross-sectional imaging at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Horton joined the radiology faculty as an assistant professor in 1998. Dr. Horton was promoted to Associate Professor in 2002, and in 2008 became the 144th female to be promoted to Professor at Johns Hopkins. In 2009, Dr. Horton assumed the role of Johns Hopkins Radiology Residency Program Director. During her more than four years as program director, the residency program was ranked #1 by Aunt Minnie twice and #4 by Doximity. During her tenure, in addition to making significant improvements to the residency curriculum, she increased diversity by recruiting more women and underrepresented minorities. From 2013 to 2014, Dr. Horton served as Acting Chair of the Department of Radiology at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Dr. Horton established subspecialty divisions and more fully integrated the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and The Johns Hopkins Hospital radiology divisions. She is a member of the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. Dr. Horton has held numerous leadership positions within the Department of Radiology and Radiological Science, including Vice Chair of Operations in 2014, Executive Vice Chair in 2015, Interim Chair in 2016-2017.

Katarzyna J. Macura, MD

Dr. Katarzyna J. Macura is a professor in the Johns Hopkins Medicine department of radiology and radiological science, a professor of oncology and urology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and a member of the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center and the Johns Hopkins Precision Medicine Center of Excellence for Prostate Cancer. She is a radiologist consultant for the Prostate Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinic at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Macura established a clinical and research prostate imaging program with a focus on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Dr. Macura has expertise in cross-sectional body imaging, MRI and prostate cancer, and image-guided biopsies. Dr. Macura earned her medical degree from the Medical University of Lodz in Poland. She completed a residency in diagnostic radiology at the Medical College of Georgia and a fellowship in cross-sectional body imaging at Johns Hopkins University. Prior to arrival at Hopkins in 2000, Dr. Macura completed post-doctoral research in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. With a PhD degree in Medical Informatics, she had pioneered early applications of Artificial Intelligence for medical decision support, a domain that is now rapidly expanding owing to the advancement of computer technologies and recent recognition that decision support augments appropriate utilization of medical technologies, provides second opinion systems for improved diagnostics and management, and allows optimization of medical care delivery with the assessment of quality and safety. Dr. Macura is a certified knowledge engineer. Dr. Macura is a member of several national and international radiology organizations. She served as president of the Maryland Radiological Society, the Maryland Chapter of the American College of Radiology (ACR), between 2013 and 2015, as well as president of the American Association for Women in Radiology (AAWR) in 2005. She was a Chancellor on the ACR Board of Chancellors, serving as the Inaugural Chair of the ACR Commission for Women and Diversity, between 2013 and 2019. She served as Vice-President of the ACR 2019-2020. She was named the Outstanding Teacher of the Year by Hopkins Radiology Residents in 2005 and 2021, and received the Resident Mentoring Awards in 2018 and 2024. Dr. Macura was also named the Honored Educator by the Radiological Society of North America in 2012 and 2014. In 2016, she received the "Diamond" Jim Brady Urology Residents teaching award and the AAWR Marie Sklodowska-Curie award. In 2022, she received the Gold Medal from the American College of Radiology. Dr. Macura is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology (FACR), the Society for Advanced Body Imaging (FSABI), and the American Association for Women in Radiology (FAAWR).
