The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), a part of the National Institutes of Health, conducts and supports researches on the causes, consequences, prevention and treatment of alcohol abuse and alcoholism in the United States. The agency disseminates research findings to health care providers, researchers, policymakers, and general, professional and academic audiences. It also conducts researches on various scientific areas, including genetics, neuroscience and epidemiology. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism works in collaboration with international, national, state and local institutions, organizations, agencies, and programs engaged in alcohol-related work. The agency operates the College Drinking: Changing the Culture, Underage Drinking Research Initiative and Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free programs.
