MSILC plays an integral part in the independent living arena. A few services and/or duties which the Council members provide are monitor, review, and evaluate the implementation of the State Plan for Independent Living. Coordinate activities with the State Rehabilitation Council and other councils that address the needs of specific disability populations and issues. Hold hearings and forums as needed to carry out the duties of the Council. And other activities the Council may determine appropriate which are consistent with state or federal law and regulation.

Providence Center

Founded in 1961, the Providence Center provides a variety of services for individuals with disabilities. The center serves more than 450 adults in over seven locations throughout Anne Arundel County, Md. It offers vocational training, sheltered and supported employment, job development and placement, adult day care, senior citizen retirement support and in-home services. Located in Glen Burnie, Md., the Providence Center supports various leisure and recreational programs. The center additionally operates an art institute that provides professional and integrated instruction in visual and performing arts. In addition, it operates a resource center that features a range of programs that include instruction and opportunities in special interest, daytime entertaining activities and excursions. The resource center also houses individual support services and community supported living arrangement programs.
