Founded in 1979, First Step is a community-based organization that provides mental health assessment and treatment services for adults and adolescents, as well as prevents juvenile delinquency. It offers psychiatric evaluation, case and medication management, and individual, family and group counseling services. First Step provides urine analysis, educational and prevention services for alcohol and substance abuse. It also offers career exploration, job search, life and interpersonal skills development, and interviewing and employment retention training. The organization provides tutoring and educational assistance and conducts pre-employment skills development workshops. It also offers a video-based program that features education and discussion groups; teaches parenting skills; and provides creative ways to meet challenges faced by several working and single parents. First Step maintains one of its facilities in Reisterstown, Md.
