As the director of the Johns Hopkins Movement Disorders Division, Dr. Kelly Mills cares for patients who have movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, atypical parkinsonism, dystonia, ataxia, tremor and Huntington’s disease. He also evaluates and manages patients needing deep brain stimulation to manage their movement symptoms and provides botulinum toxin treatment for various disorders.In his research, Dr. Mills explores the cognitive dysfunction that can occur in movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. He is particularly interested in describing the role of the basal ganglia in cognition, especially in the context of various diseases that can affect this structure.His work focuses on clarifying how certain treatments might impact cognitive and psychiatric problems. For instance, Dr. Mills studies how deep brain stimulation, when used to treat movement symptoms, can impact cognitive function such as attention, memory or impulsivity.Dr. Mills is a Maryland native and a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where he developed an interest in neurology and movement disorders.He trained at the University of California, San Francisco, where he completed his neurology residency as well as a clinical and research fellowship in movement disorders, with a particular emphasis on deep brain stimulation to treat Parkinson’s disease, tremor and dystonia.

Sashank K. Reddy, MD

Sashank Reddy is an associate professor and vice chair of research in the Johns Hopkins Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and has a secondary appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in July 2018.In addition to his clinical practice in plastic surgery, Dr. Reddy directs a research laboratory in regenerative medicine. Current studies center on mechanisms of regeneration and homeostasis in skin, and development of nanomaterials to support tissue regeneration and cell therapy. His discoveries have been published in leading journals including Nature, Cell, Cell Stem Cell and Science Translational Medicine. Dr. Reddy is also an accomplished entrepreneur and biomedical innovator. In his role as medical director for Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures, he advises faculty and university administration on enhancing the impact of discoveries through company creation and corporate partnerships. A member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, Dr. Reddy serves on boards and committees in the organizations. He is a former American Society of Plastic Surgeons alternate delegate to the American Medical Association. In his leadership, scholarship and clinical efforts, Dr. Reddy — who has received numerous accolades from professional societies — seeks to integrate science and medicine for the benefit of patients.
