Jennifer Fitzgerald is a neonatologist in the Division of Neonatology at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. She specializes in the management of premature babies and newborns with high-risk or complex health conditions. Dr. Fitzgerald received her medical degree at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev Faculty of Health Sciences. She then completed her pediatric residency at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and her fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. During her fellowship, Dr. Fitzgerald spearheaded a quality improvement project to harmonize unit practices for initial and continued ventilator management of premature infants. This led to a decrease in intubation days for the premature infants and a decrease in the number of days to the first extubation attempt without increasing reintubation rates.
