Great Falls Canal Boat Ride offers a unique and educational experience along the C&O Canal, allowing visitors to ride aboard the replica Charles F. Mercer canal excursion boat and learn about the history of the canal and its inhabitants. Operated by knowledgeable park staff, the boat ride takes guests back to the bustling days of the 1870s when the canal was a major transportation route from Georgetown to Cumberland.
Due to an extensive canal rehabilitation project, the 2023 boat program has been canceled, but visitors can look forward to upcoming programs and events by checking the park's events calendar. With a maximum capacity of 50 people per ride, tickets are available for free on a first come, first served basis at the Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center one hour prior to each ride.
