Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center Inc

The Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center is a private, nonprofit human service agency that has been serving central Maryland for more than 30 years. It provides 24-hour telephone and walk-in crisis counseling, emergency shelter, transitional housing and community education services. Founded in 1969, the center employs more than 50 full- and part-time staff members. It conducts outreach programs on a variety of topics, including suicide prevention and depression. The center operates a 20-bed shelter for families and adult women; a 12-bed shelter for adult men; and several transitional apartments. It also offers case management; individual and group counseling; addiction evaluation and referral; psychiatric evaluation and treatment; transportation; job assistance; and money management services. The center is certified by the American Association of Suicidology. It receives funds from a variety of sources, including the United Way of Central Maryland; federal, state and local governments; private foundations; individual and corporate donations; and special fundraising events. The Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center is located in Columbia, Md.
