Gunpowder Copper Works, established around 1811 by Levi Hollingsworth, is recognized as the second oldest copper works in the United States, located along the Great Gunpowder Falls in Maryland. The factory was instrumental in supplying the U.S. Navy during the War of 1812 and gained national fame for its copper sheathing used in the reconstruction of the U.S. Capitol Dome.
Operated until 1858, the facility transitioned ownership several times before ultimately becoming part of Gunpowder Falls State Park. Today, remnants of the original complex, including several historical buildings, stand as a testament to the site's rich industrial heritage.
