The Maryland Department of Aging, in partnership with local Area Agencies on Ageing, provides leadership and advocacy for senior citizens and their families through information, education, programs and services that promote and enhance choice, independence and dignity. It supports a variety of health insurance assistance programs, offers legal assistance and provides guidance related to employment. The Maryland Department of Aging also operates several senior centers that provide help to older individuals, encouraging them to take charge of their health and stay involved in their community. The department also supports the senior care system that provides case management and funds for services for people 65 or older who may be at risk of nursing home placement. The Maryland Department of Aging is located in Baltimore.

Located in Rockville, Md., Montgomery County Pre-Release Services is a community corrections program and facility for delinquent people. It provides community-based services for residents. Montgomery County Pre-Release Services is a part of the Montgomery County Department of Correction & Rehabilitation, which provides supervision and community treatment and reintegration programs. It is a part of Montgomery County Government, which operates through economic, fire, human resources, liquor control and, health and human services departments. Its fire department offers emergency response services. The department also provides safety tips for parents and children. The county police department works for the protection and safety of property and residents.

The Department of Water Quality is a public service agency that is a part of the Environmental Management of the government of the city of Williamsport, Md. It works to protect the environment and public health. The department provides safe, efficient and cost-effective water and wastewater services in regards to the construction, operation, maintenance and management of systems in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. The Department of Water Quality also oversees the operations and maintenance of a variety of domestic wastewater plants, water treatment facilities, pumping stations, grinder and low-pressure pumps, and pipes and lines. It also operates an industrial wastewater pretreatment facility that undertakes public wastewater management projects.
