Two SNEAKERS and PEARLS participants will receive education scholarships, named for the co-founder of Crittenton Services, Dr. Kate Waller Barrett. Graduates of Crittenton's Leadership Academy will host the event and present the Crittenton Legacy Awards honoring those who have made an extraordinary difference in the lives of teen women. Join us at the elegant Mandarin Oriental hotel for a celebration and conversation hosted by 50 teen women from our SNEAKERS and PEARLS programs as they demonstrate their success as graduates of Crittenton's Leadership Academy. They are eager to welcome and host the men and women who support their progress. Since 1887, Crittenton Services of Greater Washington has been providing teen women with programs that directly address life changing issues " pregnancy, STDs and relationship violence. We support teen women living in underserved communities by helping them adopt healthy behaviors, set and achieve SMART ( Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound ) goals, and expand knowledge about post secondary education and career options. Crittenton's signature, positive youth development and comprehensive sexual health education programs " SNEAKERS and PEARLS " are weekly, voluntary, school-based programs. SNEAKERS is for girls navigating the challenges and choices of eighth grade through high school. PEARLS is for young mothers dealing with the dual challenges of adolescence and parenting. Crittenton's Leadership Academy participants are recruited from the SNEAKERS and PEARLS programs. Crittenton's focus on prevention programs " prevention of pregnancy, STDs and relationship violence " takes a positive and proven approach. Crittenton staff believe in and build on the inherent strengths of the girls we serve.
