Tuerk House is a nonprofit organization that provides services for individuals with substance abuse problems. Founded in 1970, it offers residential and outpatient treatment solutions. The organization operates various recovery centers, including Nilsson House, Weisman-Kaplan House and Howard County House. Tuerk House is accredited by The Joint Commission. It also provides peer support services. The organization is a more than 70-plus-bed facility that serves men and women. Tuerk House operates Open Doors Catering, which is a social enterprise. It has partnerships with Power Inside and Coppin State University. The organization treats individuals with HIV, chronic psychiatric issues and multiple felonies. Tuerk House has a staff of over 50 employees.

Established in 1983, Progress Unlimited is a private, nonprofit organization that offers 24-hour residential care for adults with developmental disabilities. The organization offers assistance to enhance skills related to problem solving and build and maintain relationships. It provides transportation, medication evaluation and case management services. Progress Unlimited offers supported housing, behavioral care and companionship programs. The organization also assists with a variety of daily activities, including dressing, eating, personal hygiene and household chores. In addition, it provides several medical care services, such as massage, physical and occupational therapies. Progress Unlimited is licensed by the State of Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration. The organization is located in Owings Mills, Md.
