Carroll Museums, Inc was created in 2002 as a 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) not-for-profit educational corporation to restore and revitalize the Carroll Mansion and Phoenix Shot Tower, two beloved Baltimore landmarks. Both sites are historically significant at the city, state, and national levels. They are also key components of their historic Jonestown neighborhood and have the potential to play a pivotal role in the future of the area and the quality of community life. Carroll Museums recognizes this potential and has formulated a strategic plan that 1 ) honors and preserves the sites' heritage, 2 ) seeks innovative ways to interpret their past, and 3 ) makes them active participants in their modern community.Carroll Museums leases the Mansion and Tower from the City and, as steward, is completely responsible for the sites' restoration, upkeep, and public access. To date, Carroll Museums has restored the Mansion's spiral stair, hallways, and five interior rooms; rebuilt the Shot Tower's parapet and repaired its sash windows; and created a new Tower sound and light show. We are currently restoring the Mansion's portico, windows and doors, and upgrading its HVAC.We also create programs to disseminate the sites' diverse history. Our Baltimore Patriots curriculum, "art-meets-history" initiative, and summer SuperKids enrichment program, have been built through partnerships with neighborhood museums, arts groups, and local universities. They have given our young organization a great head-start in reaching our constituents and developing new audiences. In 2008, we served over 4, 500 people, including 1, 100 children through daily house tours, school and summer camp programs, and special events. Building on its track record of past successes, Carroll Museums is dedicated to creating educational and cultural programs to ensure the Mansion and Shot Tower become sought-after Baltimore destinations.Curator of Manuscripts + Librarian for History Sheridan Libraries, Johns Hopkins UniversitySr. Associate Director, Corporate & Foundation Relations, Johns Hopkins University 2009 Carroll Museums Inc800 E. I visited the Carroll Mansion a few weeks ago when my mother in law was visiting Baltimore for a weekend. None of us had been and decided to check in out when we were nearby. What is it? The home...

From a historic site enthusiast, this place on initial glance is a bit of a letdown? Why? Because it's pretty empty. It's kind of like you are going on a realtor tour. BUT. There is a reason...
