The Belair Stable Museum in Bowie, MD has a rich history dating back to the late 1740s when Governor Samuel Ogle and Colonel Benjamin Tasker imported Thoroughbred horses, including the famous Selima, to strengthen local racing stock. In the 20th century, the Stable became part of the renowned Belair Stud Stable, home to champions like Gallant Fox, Omaha, and Nashua. Today, the museum showcases the legacy of Belair's bloodstock over a 200-year racing history and includes a restored Stablemaster's living quarters.
With a focus on the accomplishments of Belair's horses and its agricultural uses, the Belair Stable Museum offers visitors a glimpse into the cradle of American Thoroughbred racing. From the introduction of English stock to the success of Triple Crown winners, the museum celebrates the significant contributions of Belair to the racing world. Donations are welcomed, and group tours can be arranged by appointment.
