Shaun M. Kunisaki, MD, MSc, is Professor of Surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, a Robert & Jane Meyerhoff Professor at Johns Hopkins University, and Associate Chief of Strategy and Integration in the Division of General Pediatric Surgery at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center.Dr. Kunisaki's clinical practice spans the full breadth of pediatric general, thoracic, and fetal surgery, but he is a nationally and internationally recognized authority in the prenatal and postnatal management of congenital thoracic anomalies, including lung malformations, esophageal atresia, and congenital diaphragmatic hernia. He is the Director of the Fetal Program in General Pediatric Surgery and chairs the Prenatal Pediatrics Steering Committee, a collaboration between the Johns Hopkins Children's Center and the Department of Gynecology & Obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. As Director of the Pediatric Esophageal Center, he specializes in the management of complex esophageal disorders such as long-gap esophageal atresia. He serves on the Editorial Board of several journals, including Pediatrics and Surgery, and holds senior leadership positions in the American Pediatric Surgical Association (APSA), Section on Surgery of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the Society of University Surgeons (SUS).Dr. Kunisaki has published over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters. His laboratory is funded by the National Institutes of Health and is largely focused on using stem cells derived from a patient's own tissues to better understand and treat several important pediatric surgical diseases. His team has developed techniques to reprogram fetal and neonatal tissues into pluripotent stem cells and organoids, and are working with scientists and engineers to improve long-term outcomes for children with severe birth defects, including spina bifida and congenital diaphragmatic hernia. More recently, he founded the Eastern Pediatric Surgery Network (EPSN), a clinical research collaborative composed of pediatric surgeons from over 20 children's hospitals in the country.A native of southern California, Dr. Kunisaki graduated with honors from Harvard College, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Harvard Medical School. He completed general surgery residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School followed by a pediatric surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan. He also did additional research fellowships at the Massachusetts General Hospital and at Boston Children's Hospital.Philanthropy plays a crucial role in the work Dr. Kunisaki does by providing seed funding for research, funding for the best educational resources to train the future generation of pediatric surgeons, and additional support services for families receiving treatment that are not covered by insurance. Dr. Sara Christina Sadreameli is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her clinical specialty is pediatric pulmonary medicine and her clinical interests and expertise include: care of children with asthma, pulmonary complications of sickle cell disease, childhood interstitial lung disease (ChILD), lung disease related to e-cigarette use, aerodigestive disorders, and general pulmonary conditions. She sees patients (inpatient and outpatient)at Johns Hopkins on the East Baltimore campus. She co-directs the Childhood Interstitial and Diffuse Lung Disease (ChILD) and Immunologic Disorders (Immune) clinic with Dr. Maria Gutierrez. Dr. Sadreameli attended the College of Charleston for undergraduate studies and the Medical University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Charleston, South Carolina. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and her fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at Johns Hopkins. Additionally, she earned a master of health sciences degree at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Dr. Sadreameli's research interests include childhood interstitial lung disease (ChILD) and pulmonary complications of sickle cell disease. She has also participated in research related to pediatric asthma. Dr. Sadreameli is a volunteer media spokesperson for the American Lung Association and has expertise in pediatric advocacy.

Dr. Cozumel S. Pruette is an associate professor of pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She provides care for children with kidney problems of any type, from microscopic hematuria to kidney transplant recipients. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in biology from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Pruette earned a master's degree in neuroscience from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She earned her medical degree with Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois, and completed her internship and residency at Johns Hopkins University, where she was a chief resident. Dr. Pruette went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric nephrology at Johns Hopkins in 2012. As part of her fellowship training, she received a master's degree in clinical epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Pruette’s research is focused on improving self-management, patient engagement, transition of care and medication adherence in patients with chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease. She leads the pediatric/young adult transition of care program for the Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Transplant Center. Dr. Pruette is the principal investigator in the development and implementation of a peer-mentoring program for adolescents with kidney transplant. She has established national patient and family advisory councils for the North American Pediatric Renal Trials and Collaborative Studies (NAPRTCS) and for the Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD) Study. She has been the recipient of numerous research grants, including the KL2 Clinical Research Scholars Award, as well as the Pearl M. Stetler Research Fund Award, multiple awards from the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland, and the NIH NIDDK.
