Amteshwar Singh, MBBS

Dr. Julia Kim is an assistant professor of pediatrics in the Division of Quality and Safety and the associate vice chair of ambulatory quality for the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.Her clinical and research interests focus on pediatric quality improvement and patient safety, and improving preventive health services delivery to children in the primary care setting. Her work with pediatric quality improvement and patient safety spans both outpatient and inpatient settings, including a Lean Six Sigma project on improving home medication reconciliation on hospital admission.Dr. Kim completed her pediatric and chief residency training at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She completed fellowship training in general academic pediatrics, comparative effectiveness research and preventive medicine at The Johns Hopkins University. She received quality improvement and patient safety training from the Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality, including her Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.She served as the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ medical director of quality improvement and patient safety from 2014 to 2015 and led a pediatric obesity quality improvement learning collaborative with primary care pediatricians throughout Maryland.

David Newman-Toker, M.D., Ph.D., is an internationally recognized leader in neuro-otology, acute stroke diagnosis, and diagnostic errors research. He completed his undergraduate studies at Yale University, his medical degree at University of Pennsylvania, his residency training and neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at Harvard University, his neuro-otology fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and his doctoral degree in clinical research methods at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He has served as a full-time faculty member at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine since 2002. He is the David Robinson Professor of Vestibular Neurology and also holds appointments in Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Emergency Medicine, Acute Care Nursing, Health Sciences Informatics, Epidemiology, and Health Policy & Management at Johns Hopkins.   Dr. Newman-Toker is a bedside-to-populations translational researcher, with a focus on eliminating diagnostic errors and achieving diagnostic excellence. He is a leader in the national and international movements to eliminate patient harms from diagnostic error. Dr. Newman-Toker’s clinical focus is on diagnosis of acute disorders affecting the brainstem and cranial nerves, particularly stroke. He is recognized for his research in novel eye-movement-based bedside methods for diagnosing stroke in patients with acute dizziness and vertigo in the emergency department and, in 2024, won the international Bárány Society’s Hallpike-Nylén Prize for clinical research achievement. Dr. Newman-Toker serves as director of the Division of Neuro-Visual & Vestibular Disorders in the Department of Neurology. He also directs the Armstrong Institute Center for Diagnostic Excellence, whose mission is to catalyze efforts to improve diagnostic performance, develop the science of diagnostic safety, and enhance diagnostic research. He has been the principal investigator on numerous National Institutes of Health, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and foundation grants. He has published over 165 journal articles and given more than 300 invited lectures. He has served as an expert consultant on diagnostic safety and quality to AHRQ, the National Quality Forum, and the National Academy of Medicine. He has testified before Congress on the use of artificial intelligence for medical diagnosis. He was president of the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine from 2018-2020.

Dr. Alicia Arbaje is Associate Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her areas of clinical expertise include general internal medicine and geriatric medicine, with a particular interest in helping older adults stay at home as they age and working with a team to coordinate care for her older patients. Dr. Arbaje serves as the Director of Transitional Care Research at Johns Hopkins.After receiving her medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine and a masters degree in public health from Harvard University, Dr. Arbaje completed her residency in internal medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She performed fellowships in health care research and geriatric medicine and gerontology at Johns Hopkins. Her research interests include designing health care systems to enhance safety and improve outcomes for older adults.Dr. Arbaje is a member of the American Geriatrics Society, the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, and the Gerontological Society of America. At Johns Hopkins, she was a founding member of the Hopkins Organization for Latino Awareness (HOLA) and is a member of the Department of Medicine Diversity Council. Dr. Arbaje is active in speaking to the media about issues relevant to older adults (see her YouTube channel). She has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Top 10 Doctors Under 40 by the Baltimore Sun Magazine and the American Geriatrics Society New Investigator Award.
