Aliyah Pabani, MD

Dr. Deborah Persaud is a professor of pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and the director of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Johns Hopkins Children's Center. She holds joint appointments in international health and molecular microbiology and immunology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.A clinician and researcher specializing in the study and treatment of HIV-1 infection in children, she directs the pediatric infectious diseases fellowship program at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.Dr. Persaud received her B.S. in chemistry from York College in New York. A 1985 graduate of the New York University School of Medicine, she trained in pediatrics at Babies Hospital/Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, where she was chief resident. She was an infectious disease fellow, an Aaron Diamond postdoctoral research fellow and a faculty member at New York University. She joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1997, following a visiting lectureship at the Moi University in Eldoret, Kenya.Her research interests include HIV/AIDS drug development and mother-to-child HIV transmission.Dr. Persaud is the scientific chair of the HIV CURE Scientific Committee of the International Maternal, Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials (IMPAACT) group. She was awarded the prestigious Elizabeth Glaser Scientist Award for her HIV research and was recognized by Nature magazine in 2013 as one of “Ten People Who Mattered This Year.” She was recognized by Time magazine as among the “100 Most Influential People of 2013” for her pediatric HIV treatment research.

Dr. Samar Atteih is a pediatric pulmonologist at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, MD. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of bronchopulmonary dysplasia, asthma, cystic fibrosis and other pediatric pulmonary diseases. Dr. Atteih received her medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland before completing her pediatrics residency at the Harriet Lane Clinic at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. She subsequently completed a Pediatric Pulmonology fellowship at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Peter Mogayzel is the Menowitz/Rosenstein Professor of Pediatric Respiratory Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His areas of clinical expertise include pediatric pulmonary medicine and the treatment of cystic fibrosis. He has served as the director of the Johns Hopkins Cystic Fibrosis Center since 2002. Dr. Mogayzel attended Brown University and received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Boston University and an M.B.A. from Johns Hopkins University. He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Washington, and finished pediatric pulmonary and pediatric critical care fellowships at Johns Hopkins in 1998 before joining the faculty. His research interests include the regulatory properties of the CFTR gene, mucociliary clearance and development of new therapeutics for cystic fibrosis. Dr. Mogayzel has provided care for children with cystic fibrosis and has been active in the CF community since his arrival at Johns Hopkins. He served as Chairman of the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Pulmonary Therapies Committee and the Therapeutic Development Network Protocol Review Committee both of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He is also a past Chairman of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Center Committee which accredits cystic fibrosis care centers in the US. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
