The Tate House is the home of the British Mast Agent George Tate. It is a Georgian Colonial style house, built in 1755 and the only pre-Revolutionary home in Portland, ME open to the public.The museum offers docent led tours and tells the story of the Tate family and the mast trade. There is also an 18-century herb and flower garden.

I'm an old house enthusiast and this was a great house to tour. The guide was just ok, not great...but it's a great house to go see a typical colonial style home without trekking to Williamsburg....

Fantastic Docent, educational and great for anyone of all ages. Learning the history of this country, the way people lived it takes you back and truly gives you perspective. The teenagers loved it...

Nice surprise - good colonial House tour very close to Portland Airport, in a charming spot by the river. Tiny gift shop - the house itself is nice, docent I would just rate as ok.
