Based in Portland, Maine, the Milestone Foundation is one of the oldest substance abuse treatment programs in the state for low-income individuals. It offers short- and long-term therapies to treat physical and mental impairments caused by excessive drug usage. The program provides nutritional food and counseling services for indigent and late-stage alcoholics and drug abusers. The Milestone Foundation offers pain management, medication administration and 24-hour skilled nursing services. Its emergency shelter serves referrals from police departments, hospitals and social service agencies. The Milestone Foundation provides crisis intervention, case management and therapeutic services. In addition, it offers a supportive residential treatment program to help people recover from the effects of chronic substance abuse.
