Trans-Tech Industries was incorporated in Maine in 1984, and was located in Southwest Harbor, Maine, near Acadia National Park and Bass Harbor Light, which is depicted in our banner above. At that time, we believed the market was ready for a well-designed and expertly crafted aluminum tank of the highest quality. Accordingly, our goal was to design a stronger, more reliable tank incorporating features that would provide both safety and convenience for the operator. In doing so, we aimed to achieve a reputation as the premier tank supplier in the industry. Our engineers developed a design that provided a low center-of-gravity for safer road handling, was aesthetically pleasing, and that incorporated unique features that allowed us to obtain a United States patent. With computer-controlled plasma cutting and numerically-controlled press brake forming, we obtain precise fitups which are ideal for achieving welded joints of the highest quality. We built a prototype unit and our engineers, working with engineers from the University of Maine, conducted extensive strain gauge tests, both stationary and over the road. These tests resulted in adjustments in our design to optimize stress distributions in the structure. The result was a tank that was as 'Rugged the Maine Coast In the beginning, Trans-Tech offered only three different tank models, which we produced at our harbor-side shop. The line was soon expanded to seven models with various configurations available to satisfy the requirements of different market areas. In many instances, we are able to make custom modifications to meet individual customer requirements. As our reputation for delivering a rugged, dependable truck tank grew, so did demand for our products. We soon found ourselves operating from two manufacturing buildings and separate office space. In August 1995, the Department of Transportation began enforcing conformance to a new specification governing the design of truck tanks utilized to transport hazardous materials in interstate transportation. The new specification, DOT 406, was significantly more stringent than MC 306, which it replaced. Again working with University of Maine engineers, Trans-Tech began preparing in 1993 for meeting DOT 406 requirements with an extensive program of analyses and testing. The program included Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and full-scale testing of tanks instrumented with strain gauges and motion transducers. Trans-Tech voluntarily submitted the complete results of this program to the Research and Special Programs Administration of the Department of Transportation, Washington, D.C., for their review. We believe that no other tank manufacturer has conducted this level of design analysis and verification of compliance to the DOT 406 specification requirements. In order to consolidate our operations and to meet the increasing demand for our tanks, Trans-Tech built a new facility in Brewer, Maine in 1999. The new 43, 000 sq. ft. building, with bridge cranes and new production equipment, provides a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that has more than doubled our production capacity, using the same Maine craftsmanship that earned us our reputation in the first place. In addition, it enabled us to better manufacture a new line of products - aircraft refuelers. We've produced units ranging from 1, 000 to 10, 000 gallons which are in service at airports across America. In 2004, a 7, 200 square foot building was added next to the main building where all small parts manufacturing was relocated to accommodate demands for more specialty trailers. We continually strive to improve our current product line, and to develop new products to meet the changing needs of the petroleum transport and delivery industry. Please contact us with any suggestions you may have. Who knows - your need of today could be our product line of tomorrow!
