Beech Hill Farm in Mount Desert, Maine is a MOFGA-certified organic farm spanning 73 acres, featuring vegetable fields, apple orchards, pasture land, greenhouses, and forest. Founded in 1989 by COA alumni Barbarina Heyerdahl and Aaron Heyerdahl, the farm now serves as a living laboratory for College of the Atlantic students and faculty to engage with agriculture within the realm of human ecology.
Operating as a sustainable food production hub, Beech Hill Farm supplies COA and the wider community with organic vegetables, meat, and produce. Through collaborative efforts with the college's kitchen, the farm aims to establish a more sustainable system of food production and consumption while offering educational opportunities to students and community members through various programs, events, and workshops.
