Youth Challenge Program

The Louisiana National Guard Youth Challenge Program (YCP) is an alternative educational initiative designed for adolescents aged 16 to 18, offering them the opportunity to develop self-discipline, leadership skills, and responsibility while working towards obtaining a high school equivalency diploma. Through a structured two-part program, YCP provides a supportive environment where participants can grow and learn to become productive citizens in their communities.

Spanning 17 months, the program includes a 5-month Residential Phase where students live on-site and receive comprehensive education and counseling, followed by a 12-month Post Residential Phase focused on continued personal development with the assistance of case managers and community mentors. YCP emphasizes teamwork and personal growth through eight core components that cover life skills, academic excellence, job readiness, and community service.
