Operational since 1957, WYES-TV is an educational television station that broadcasts on Channel 12. The television station serves the residents of New Orleans in Louisiana. It is owned by the Greater New Orleans Educational Television Foundation. WYES-TV broadcasts theme-based programs that focus on various subjects, including art, reading, music and math. The television station s program list includes ReSHAPING NEW ORLEANS, Informed Sources and Dr. Gary Small's Memory Bible. It also distributes a range of books to children from low-income families. WYES-TV hosts several programs that focus on local current issues. In addition, the television station organizes workshops to train parents, child care providers and teachers for using public television programs to enhance the learning capabilities of children.
