HistoryUsing his experience in the entertainment and education industries, Doug Gay started Baton Rouge Music Studios in 2006. He has a degree in Music Education from Northwestern State University, and has been performing music professionally as a session musician and touring musician since 1993. Some of the notable musicians Doug has recorded and/or performed with are: Marc Ford (Black Crowes), Gil Landry (Old Crowe Medicine Show), Tab Benoit, Anders Osborne, and John Oates (Hall and Oates). The idea behind BRMS is to give musicians young and old the tools to function in a continually growing industry comprised of many job functions, and to teach them the art of diversifying their skills sets in order to create a viable career in the music industry through the creation of multiple revenue streams.SpecialtiesBRMS offers a number of educational and professional services. The facility includes lesson rooms, a 3-room recording suite and a 1,500 sq. foot venue. In addition to private lessons, RockLab, Young Band Nation, and the Advanced Industry Training Program, BRMS offers Recording/Karaoke Birthday Parties, recording services, rental of the practice rooms and venue. What's unique about the business? - Performances! All students participate in a number of performance in BRMS' venue, The Blue Verse Room, and around Louisiana. The most notable performances include Jazz Fest, The International Blues Challenge, Baton Rouge Blues Festival etc. - Practicality! Not only do students learn their instruments, they learn about the music business. How to book shows, market yourself, how to create an electronic press kit (EPK) etc. - Community! Through collaboration students may learn music in a social environment. They can mingle with local and professional musicians and industry experts at the many events BRMS hosts.
