The Shop: Oddities At Unique Nola

The oddest store in the French Quarter is half hoodoo supplies, half taxidermy turned into art, and half completely random ephemera and clutter. Yes, that's three halves. One is greeted outside by a six foot animatronic chimp dressed for the most recent upcoming holiday, because animatronics celebrate too. Once inside, you'll find New Orleans' largest selection of tarot cards, a very large selection of antique radium glass (you can't miss it, it glows), and all sorts of hoodoo (not Voodoo!) items. The place is decorated like a 1920's brothel, and if you want to know stories of 1920's brothels... just ask. The store started by selling only walking tours, but its proprietor- the ever salty Monique- found the large space to be very welcoming to her undiagnosed hoarding issue. And it's all for sale! Well, not certain items. If a taxidermied critter crosses the border from art to pet, it goes on the "do not touch" shelf. Oh, and medical oddities!
