St.Bernard Parish Karate Program

History

The St. Bernard Parish Karate Program was founded in 1983 under the name St. Bernard Shotokan Karate Association by former Law enforcement self-defense instructor Sensei Darrell Goodyear. Sensei Goodyear started training in 1969 and received his Black Belt in 1974 from world renown karate master Sensei Takayuiki Mikami . Sensei Goodyear training in and teaching Karate and self defense for almost 50 years. he is a former Vice- President for the USA National Karate Federation which is the only karate organization recognized by the United States Olympic Committee. In 2014 Sensei Goodyear was inducted into the prestigious Masters Hall of Fame in Long Beach California for his Contribution to American Karate.

Specialties

Instruction in Traditional Japanese Karate. Youth classes stressing the character development aspect of traditional Martial Arts including respect, discipline, confidence and integrity. Adult classes with an emphasis on urban close quarters self-defense techniques . Classes for all ages
