St. Mary’s Assumption Church, a historic landmark in New Orleans, serves as the final resting place of Blessed Francis Seelos, a Redemptorist priest known for his dedication to serving communities affected by the yellow fever epidemic. Despite facing significant damage over its 164-year history due to the harsh climate and hurricanes, efforts are underway to restore the church's original beauty and fortify its structure through the Save St. Mary’s Campaign Committee.
As part of St. Alphonsus Parish, St. Mary’s Assumption Church embodies a welcoming and caring Roman Catholic community inspired by the Holy Spirit and the Gospel. Since its founding in 1843, the parish has been committed to fostering a Eucharistic community that strives for justice through service to one another and the broader community.
