Red River Waterway Commission
The Red River Waterway Commission, located in Natchitoches, Louisiana, represents the seven-parish Red River Waterway District, encompassing Caddo, Bossier, Red River, Natchitoches, Grant, Rapides, and Avoyelles parishes. Commissioners are appointed from each of these parishes, along with four at-large commissioners, to oversee the economic growth and recreational development of the region.
Since the completion of the Red River Waterway Project in 1994, which included the construction of 5 locks and dams, the commission has maintained a year-round waterway connecting ports north and south for businesses. The commission also organizes events like the Bassmaster Classic Outdoors Expo and the Red River Rumble F1 Powerboat Showdown to promote recreational activities along the Red River.
