About Packard LaPray Packard LaPray has it's roots in the long-time solo practice of Bernard E. "Bernie" Packard, who, back in 1967, began his law career in Beaumont, Texas. As a general rule, Bernie only represented individuals; not companies or employers. He quickly gained a reputation as a dependable "street lawyer" who could be counted on to help the least of those in need of protection against insurance companies, employers and corporations. Through the years, his solo practice grew and word of his dedication to helping protect the rights of individuals spread. In 1995, after 28 years in business, he was joined by his sons, Steven, David and Daniel Packard, and the name of the law firm was changed to Packard & Packard. Later, Hal LaPray, a distant cousin and Harvard Law School graduate also joined the firm, helping to round out the different legal areas to help create a truly full-service law firm, serving Southeast Texas and surrounding areas, and as a result, the firm's name was changed to Packard Packard & LaPray. The youth of the young lawyers, combined with the wisdom and reputation of their founder, helped the firm acquire many different types of cases, including Social Security disability, federal whistleblower claims, workers' compensation, personal injury, personal bankruptcy, family law and criminal defense cases. The firm has since gone through several evolutions and expansions, yet a few things have remained the same. First, the firm has continued to grow and expand its Social Security Disability claims department to become one of the region's largest. Satellite offices are now located in multiple states, and the firm now handles disability cases throughout the country. Secondly, the firm has never lost it's "street appeal" and still focuses primarily on protecting the rights of individuals against corporations, employers, insurance companies and government agencies. With the reach and influence of the firm extending nationwide, the firm has since changed its name simply to Packard LaPray.
