Situated on the western shore of Lake Bistineau, this park offers a satisfying blend of beautiful vistas and outstanding recreational facilities. Memorable for its upland mixed hardwood forest, open waters, and enchanting stands of cypress and tupelo trees, the park provides two boat launches, hiking and biking trails, playgrounds, camping, cabins, and excellent fishing opportunities.
Lake Bistineau dates back over 200 years, originating from a massive log jam in the Red River that led to the flooding of several thousand acres of land. Today, visitors can enjoy the 26.9 square mile reservoir with its average depth of seven feet and a maximum depth of 25 feet. Picnicking along the lake is a popular activity, with numerous sites featuring tables, grills, and nearby restrooms. The park also boasts nearly 10 miles of woodland trails and an 11-mile canoe trail for those who wish to explore the area by water.
For overnight stays, the park offers fourteen vacation cabins, 44 improved campsites, 17 premium campsites, and two group camps with dining halls and cabins. Fishing enthusiasts can reel in a variety of freshwater catches throughout the year, including black crappie, largemouth bass, catfish, and more. Birdwatchers can explore the diverse habitats within the park and take part in birding tours upon request. Lake Bistineau State Park provides a serene escape into nature for visitors of all ages.

I would really like to launch at the state park and fish there, but they don't open until 8 AM and it's already starting to get hot by then.
