The Krewe of Freret, established in 2011 by seven Loyola graduates, aims to preserve the Mardi Gras tradition while uniting enthusiastic young professionals and supporting local industries. Known for its unique and inclusive parade, the Krewe favors sustainable throws and showcases local vendors, artists, and entertainers while infusing vitality into the Carnival celebration along the Freret corridor.

In partnership with legendary float builder Kern Studios, the Krewe has evolved into one of the most exciting participants in Mardi Gras, featuring impressive floats that pay tribute to beloved local artists. Their annual parade, themed around New Orleans' rich musical legacy, culminates in the lively Shorty Gras celebration, blending the energy of a live concert with the revelry of Mardi Gras.
