Located in New Orleans, Dillard University is one of the leading providers of higher education in the United States. Founded by the American Missionary Association of the Congregational Church, Dillard has been operational for more than 55 years. Formerly known as Straight University, it enrolls more than 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students annually. The university is approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Louisiana Department of Education, National League of Nursing, and Louisiana State Board of Nursing Education. It offers a wide variety of courses, such as accounting, American studies, anthropology and sociology, fine arts, biology, chemistry, business administration, classical studies, criminal justice, economics, childhood education, mechanical and civil engineering, English literature, environmental studies, and foreign languages. Dillard University also offers majors in world history, human services, individualized studies, mathematics, medical technology, vocational and instrumental music, nursing, philosophy and religion, political science, psychology, public affairs, and social studies.
