Established in 1888, Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL) is a private nonprofit association made up of all insurance companies licensed to write property coverage within the state of Louisiana. The association primarily functions in three different areas that includes grading of municipal areas in terms of fire protection (Public Protection) capabilities for fair insurance rating of the graded areas; inspection of any commercial building in Louisiana for the purpose of fair pricing of individual risks and filing of advisory rates and forms for property coverage in the state, subject to review and approval of the Louisiana Department of Insurance.
