Bossier Levee District
The Bossier Levee District (BLD), established in 1898, encompasses a total of 157,000 acres, primarily within Bossier Parish, Louisiana, and includes portions of Red River Parish. The district is responsible for flood protection through 486 miles of levees along the Red River and 188 miles along Red Chute Bayou, as well as 225 miles of drainage channels.
Managed by a nine-member Board of Commissioners and a 14-member professional maintenance staff, the BLD grants permits and ensures drainage protection for residents in the area. The district maintains levees, floodgates, and flood control structures, prepared to respond to flood emergencies on the Red River and Red Chute Bayou.
