Worthington is a city in Greenup County, Kentucky, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 1,673 at the 2000 census.
Worthington is a part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 288,649.
The present-day location of Worthington was once owned by Abraham Buford, who later sold the property to the Means and Russell Iron Company. The company then sold it to William Jackson Worthington, the Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky under Governor William O. Bradley from 1895-1899. After his death, the property was given to his daughters, who divided it into town lots and named it after their father. Worthington was incorporated as a city on February 5, 1920.
