WKYT reaches more than 445,000 households in central and eastern Kentucky, making it the most watched television station in the Lexington, Ky., market. With a DMA ranking of 65th in the country, WKYT is carried on approximately 135 cable systems. Approximately 140 employees carry out the daily operations of the station, which include six live newscasts, production of local shows and commercials and promotions of station products. WKYT is the official station of University of Kentucky sports, producing both football and basketball telecasts as well as the coach s shows. WKYT first went on the air on September 30, 1957 as a CBS affiliate.
