The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is a law enforcement agency within the United States Department of Justice. The bureau enforces federal criminal laws and regulates the firearms and explosives industries. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives works directly and through partnerships to investigate and reduce crime involving firearms and explosives, acts of arson, and illegal trafficking of alcohol and tobacco products. It supports Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.), which is a law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum that emphasizes eduction over delinquency, and discourages youth violence and gang activities. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives operates more than 20 divisions, including one in Louisville, Ky.
