Kentucky River Properties LLC is a land company with three Kentucky offices - in Hazard, Henderson and Lexington. Our parent company, Kentucky River Coal Corporation, was founded in 1915. In 2002, KRCC restructured in a transaction wherein all of its operating assets were contributed to newly formed Kentucky River Properties LLC. Royalties from the twenty-five or so coal companies mining on our property account for the bulk of our income. We also earn income from oil and gas sales and royalties, timber sales, and surface rentals. In Central Appalachia, KRP owns approximately 250, 000 acres in Breathitt, Clay, Harlan, Knott, Leslie, Letcher and Perry Counties, Kentucky. In the Illinois Basin, KRP owns about 95, 000 acres throughout Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. Together, KRP owns about a billion tons of recoverable coal reserves. KRP participates in its local communities. We are proud to support our schools, fire departments, nursing homes and other non-profit organizations. We are involved with helping our local students with their post secondary education through nursing and engineering scholarships. We are also actively involved in numerous organizations related to the energy industry.
