Public Radio Partnership is a nonprofit organization that owns and operates three public radio stations 89.3 FM WFPL, 90.5 FM WUOL and 91.9 FM WFPK in Louisville, Ky. Public radio began in Louisville when the Louisville Free Public Library began operating WFPL in 1950. WFPK made its debut in 1954, and WUOL went on the air from the University of Louisville campus in 1976. Public Radio Partnership was incorporated in 1993, unifying all production and administrative functions of the three stations. With the consolidation came format changes for the stations. WUOL became classical music, WFPL retained its status as Louisville s NPR station offering nationally syndicated news and public affairs programming while shifting its jazz, blues and bluegrass offerings to WFPK. A small portion of the organization s funding comes from government subsidies, while the rest comes from donations.
