If you're looking for some folksy arts, crafts and quilts, then this is probably the wrong stop. Located on Louisville's Museum Row, the Kentucky Art and Craft Museum is more focused on the education and contemporary craft and art heritage in Kentucky rather than just displaying exhibits from the past. This museum is constantly changing with three floors of exhibits, a Kentucky craft store and countless education classrooms.

Best and worst time to go to Kentucky Arts and Craft Museum
Normally a weekday is the best time to go, but you might want to call ahead. Since the museum prides itself on educational endeavors, there is often a field trip or classroom full of students. When they are out in the galleries, it can be loud and hard to see the exhibits. The worst time to go is on a Saturday, especially when there is a large concert or civic event in the area. You will want to check the museum's calendar for special events and openings as they are often crowded, but this is also the time when the artists themselves might be present.

Must see/do at the Kentucky Arts and Craft Museum
The museum isn't a traditional museum with a standard set of exhibits. Instead, the exhibits and events are constantly changing, so what's inside is always fresh and new. Be sure to check the calendar and you'll be able to see exactly the sort of art you're interested in. Also, be sure to stop by the gift shop, located next door, since many past artists still display some work there and much of it is for purchase.

Admission to the Kentucky Arts and Craft Museum
Admission is less than $10 and the museum is a non-profit organization with all monies benefitting the museum and educational programs. You can also call to arrange a private tour with a staff member. Some events will cost more than the standard admissions fee and the museum is open for free on the Friday Night Trolley Hop, held the first Friday of every month during the summer months.

Parking and public transportation to the Kentucky Arts and Craft Museum
The Kentucky Arts and Crafts Museum is easy to get to, located right downtown on Louisville's Museum Row. There are two pay lots close to the museum and free parking farther along the road. It's easy to reach by TARC as well with a convenient stop at Route 77, the Main to Market Circulator.

Food at Kentucky Arts and Craft Museum
Food and drinks are not allowed inside the museum, but there are plenty of restaurants and food carts along the street.

Insider's tip for Kentucky Arts and Craft Museum
The best events and activities don't take place during normal operating hours. The Trolley Hop is great fun, but the museum also hosts performance arts like poetry slams, workshops and fashion shows after hours. Checking the calendar for such events will open your mind to the contemporary art culture in Kentucky.

On West Main's Museum Row, KMAC is the rare stop where you can spend an hour and leave feeling both artsy and well-caffeinated. The cast-iron facade opens to bright galleries with rotating...
