The Asphalt Institute is a United States based association of international petroleum asphalt producers, manufacturers and affiliated businesses. It is the international trade association of petroleum asphalt producers, manufacturers and affiliated businesses. The organization s mission is to promote the use, benefits and quality performance of petroleum asphalt through engineering, research, marketing and educational activities. Founded in 1919, the institute's members represent 90 percent of the liquid asphalt produced in North America and an increasing percentage in international markets. The institute provides five essential core services to its members, including member connectivity, environmental oversight, represent the industry and influence policy, member technical support and promoting the increased use of asphalt. AI promotes petroleum asphalt as a safe and environmentally friendly construction material for highways, streets and roofing systems through a program of scientific research and technological developments. The Asphalt Institute maintains its headquarters in Lexington, Ky.
