Erica Stevens, M.D., M.P.H., joined Norton Children’s in August 2020 as a pediatric pulmonologist. In addition to her clinical role, she is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and the associate director of pediatric pulmonary fellowship. She has presented at multiple national conferences centered around pulmonology and related topics, including serving as a speaker of the pediatric fellows session at the 2018 North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference. Her clinical focuses include asthma, cystic fibrosis, and sickle cell disease. The Evansville, Indiana, native graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine, where she earned her medical degree in 2014. She completed her residency in pediatrics at UofL in 2017 and then spent three years at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC as a pediatric pulmonology fellow. In May of 2020, she earned her Master of Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh. It was a childhood dream of hers to become a physician, which she says was likely sparked by her family physician. During her education, she developed an interest in the sciences and solving complex problems, while finding joy in giving back to her community at her hometown’s hospital. Dr. Stevens’ focus moved to pediatric pulmonology as a fourth-year medical student. An elective in pediatric pulmonology, which she thoroughly enjoyed, helped steer the course. She was exposed to a broad range of pulmonary disease pathology, including asthma, during her pediatric residency. She finds working with children the most rewarding and enjoyable. Because some pulmonary diseases are life-long or chronic, she enjoys the ability to build lasting relationships with patients and their families. Dr. Stevens is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in general pediatrics and pediatric pulmonology. She is a member of the American Medical Association, American Thoracic Society, and American Academy of Pediatrics. When she isn’t caring for her patients, she spends time with her husband and their two treeing walker coonhounds they rescued. She also enjoys exercising, including weightlifting, boxing and spinning. She is an avid supporter of women’s rights, racial justice and equality.
