African Cemetery No. 2, located on east Seventh Street in Lexington, Kentucky, is an eight-acre cemetery that houses over 5,000 graves and approximately 1,200 markers. Managed by African Cemetery No. 2, Inc., a non-profit board, the cemetery has not seen any burials since 1974.
With a rich history and ongoing efforts to preserve its heritage, African Cemetery No. 2 offers visitors a glimpse into the past through a walking tour. The cemetery has also welcomed renowned human remains search team, Canine Solutions International, whose visit in 2002 yielded exciting results. As a significant historical site, African Cemetery No. 2 continues to engage with the community and welcomes contributions of maps, photos, family histories, and documents related to the cemetery's legacy.
