Pow Camp Concordia Preservation Society
The POW Camp Concordia Preservation Society is dedicated to preserving the history of Camp Concordia, a World War II internment camp for German prisoners of war located in Concordia, Kansas. Operational from May 1, 1943, to November 8, 1945, the camp housed over 4,000 prisoners and was strategically positioned to employ them on local farms.
Constructed hastily in the spring of 1943, the camp featured more than 300 buildings, including barracks, a hospital, and dining facilities. Throughout its operation, the camp experienced only two escapes and recorded eight POW deaths, highlighting its controlled environment during a tumultuous period in history.
