The Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes works with students and educators across diverse academic disciplines to develop history projects that highlight role models who demonstrate courage, compassion and respect. Through our unique project-based learning approach, students discover, develop and communicate the stories of Unsung Heroes who have made a profound and positive impact on the course of history. By championing these Unsung Heroes, students, educators and communities discover their own power and responsibility to effect positive change in the world. The Unsung Heroes and student projects are featured in the Hall of Unsung Heroes.

Boys & Girls Club of Joplin

Welcome Boys & Girls Club of Joplin Founded in 1957, the Boys & Girls Club of Joplin has been serving the Joplin community for over 52 years. We provide a safe, nurturing and caring environment for youth ages 6-18 through after school and summer programs. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. Our members often spend more time in our facilities than in their own homes. For this reason we strive to offer every opportunity for character and leadership development, job readiness, and life-enriching programs. All members receive help completing homework, access to a fully-equipped computer lab, gym and recreation time, and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with professional staff and other Club members. We offer programs in the five core areas of: Character & Leadership, Education & Career, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness and Recreation. Each of our members participates in drug and alcohol prevention programs that help them realize their worth and potential in life. The Club also provides an evening meal throughout the school year, as well as breakfast, lunch and a snack throughout the summer program all at no additional cost! We strive to keep our programming affordable so that it may be accessible to all youth. Our after-school membership costs $25 per semester or $50 for the entire school year! Our summer program costs $250.00 for nine weeks packed full of recreation, fun and field trips ( this includes all meals and any field trip expenses ). It is our policy that no youth will be turned away for financial reasons. Payment plans and scholarships are available upon request.
