Established in 1875, the Kansas Historical Society focuses on the collection and preservation of archeological artifacts. It operates through administration, cultural resources, education and museum divisions. The society offers an archeology training program and conducts historic preservation conferences. It provides resources related to Kansas history for students in kindergarten through grade 12. The Kansas Historical Society serves over 6.5 million people annually. The society maintains a collection of manuscript materials, maps, architectural drawings, microfilm reels, and library books and pamphlets. It offers learning opportunities for families and adults at nearly 15 historic sites in Kansas. The society provides incentives for individuals to promote the local preservation of historic buildings and cultural landscapes.
