Established in 1996 as one of the first hospitalist practices in the United States, the HIMS program by Midwest Hospital Specialists emphasizes quality patient care and supportive relationships between hospitalists, specialists, primary care physicians, and hospital staff members. By specializing in seeing only hospitalized patients on behalf of primary care physicians, HIMS physicians provide emergency admissions, perform rounds, and create discharge plans that are communicated with the patient and PCP for smooth continuity of care. PCPs gain more time for their practice while knowing that their patient is benefiting from the continuous on-site presence of the HIMS physician.
