He earned his degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed his residency at Michigan State University. He first became interested in sports medicine when he was 12. He was an avid runner, but his doctor told him to stop running when he began experiencing knee pain. Rather than give up the sport he loved, he became vigilant about injuries and proper training techniques.
